             Key Facts & History
  • Manufacturer: The Sargent brand was produced by the Baldwin Piano Company or associated factories in Marion, Ohio. Later models (after 1927) were produced by Jesse French & Sons in Newcastle, Indiana.
  •  Pneumatic System: Like most player pianos of this era, it uses a complex pneumatic system powered by foot-operated bellows. Perforated paper rolls “program” the notes by allowing air to pass through a tracker bar. (This player system has been completely restored)
  • Era: By 1924, player pianos were at the peak of their popularity, though interest began to decline shortly after with the rise of the radio and phonograph.
